Local Deliveries - Cornwall and West Devon
Wherever possible and cost permitting we look to use our own transport. We
run 3 vehicles - an 18 Tonne G.V.W. (Gross Vehicle Weight) with crane. A 7.5
Tonne G.V.W tipper for small bulk orders and a VW Transporter van for smaller
deliveries. Outside of this we use a variety of third party hauliers depending
upon the items being delivered and to suit customer requirements. Our own primary
vehicle is a DAF 18 Tonner that will carry 9.5 tonnes gross. It measures 8ft
6” (2.6 m) in width but we work on a clearance of 9ft 6” (2.9 m)
it is 26 ft in length (6.9 m). The crane located at the back of the unit has
a maximum reach of 26 ft (6.9 m) with and will easily drop a one tonne bag at
full reach, however, please bear in mind the reach distance will be reduced when
dropping over the side of the lorry. Our 7.5 tonne tipper will carry 3 tonnes gross and also has a crane.
We have a structured delivery charging system
for local deliveries which is based on distance and assumes the lorry will be
carrying a sufficient quantity of material to justify the cost of making that
delivery, albeit with other customer’s orders. We do not operate scheduled
delivery areas or times but will endeavour to get your materials to you as soon
as practically possible within the economies of running such a vehicle.
we supply our sands and aggregates in either 25kg or 1 tonne bags, loose material
may be available but we advise you to check with us prior to ordering as we bag
all products as soon as they are landed in our yard.

Deliveries By A Third Party Haulier
Deliveries outside Cornwall and West Devon are usually made by third party
hauliers and normally within 48-72 hours, however, we cannot be held responsible
for delays or situations beyond our control. That stated we do believe that haulage
operators offer an exceptional palletised delivery service here in the UK at
very competitive rates and because we use these services fairly extensively we
are able to secure competitive rates on behalf of our customers with a typical
cost of about £45.00 per pallet. This rate would exclude the more remote areas
of the UK and we’re sure that those of you fortunate enough to live in such locations
will already be only too aware of this. London with its own transport issues
also commands a higher rate for delivery and we will be happy to advise you of
the rates and service available to you.
While this method of delivery is geared
to palletised distribution, the method of unloading assumes the customer has
the necessary means to unload the goods being delivered. However, experience
has taught them that this will not be the case when delivery to non commercial
customers, as such, the best that most can offer as a means of assisted discharge
will be with a mechanical tail lift as shown in the picture below.
In order to be able
to offer this assisted discharge service it is important to note the following
requirements that the hauliers must meet as a duty of care to their drivers and
members of the public, not withstanding their obligations under Health And Safety.
Therefore the address being delivered to must meet the following criterion, as failure to notify us of any such hindrance is likely to lead to an aborted delivery for which we, and in turn you, will likely be charged for.
- Offer appropriate and suitable access for a commercial vehicle to deliver
- An appropriate location to place the pallet safely, without hindrance to
- The ground needs to be an adequate hard-standing and reasonably level to
enable a pump-up truck to discharge the pallet
For smaller items we use parcel carriers and a typical delivery charge would be £15 for a consignment weighing up to 20 Kg which will include standard packaging that is appropriate to enable your purchase to arrive with you in one piece. The service offered will attempt to make your delivery the following day but please note that this is not guaranteed although the company assures us their achievement rate is better than 96%. Once again the scale of this type of delivery operation is such that it’s inevitable that we do occasionally experience problems and while we can’t do any more to prevent it, regrettably we have to accept the rare occurrence as an associated nuisance that is part of the process. That stated we cannot be held responsible for delays or situations beyond our control. If you are unfortunate enough to suffer any aspect of these failings please advise us as soon as possible and we will endeavour to provide you with the most up to date information our carrier can provide us with. Most carriers offer a track and trace service for consignments and are well versed in handling and dealing with such eventualities.
While we aim to keep delivery costs as reasonable as possible carriage the rate offered would exclude the more remote areas of the UK and we’re sure that those of you fortunate enough to live in such locations will already be only too aware of this fact and we will be happy to advise you of the rates and service available to you.
Given the very nature of these materials we know how vulnerable they are to the mechanics of the parcel delivery system and whilst we believe that we take all the appropriate precautions required to protect the product from damage our efforts do occasionally fall victim to events or circumstances above and beyond the realms of reasonable which we factor in. In the event of this happening we will replace the damaged items as soon as practically possible and sort out any issue of liability with the carrier. In order to minimise the issue of liability we would ask that as soon as you receive your delivery and prior to signing for it that you open the box and inspect the contents in front of the driver to ensure their safe arrival. If any damage has been suffered please advise the driver and make sure the paperwork that you will still be expected to sign is noted as damaged to avoid any contention and make everyone’s life that little bit easier to rectify the situation to everyone’s satisfaction, as we strive to develop satisfied clients not victims.

that you might wish to purchase from us. The first thing we must point out is
that very occasionally we do experience problems with deliveries, if it’s
of our own making then we will endeavour to contact you as soon as possible to
advise you of the situation and our plans to address the issue. We also use outside
contractors for delivery and accept that the sheer scale of the various delivery
operations will inevitably experience setbacks for any number of reasons and
often the carrier involved won’t inform either of us, which has a tendency
to compound the situation. However if a delivery is delayed for whatever reason
simply advise us and we will make all the necessary enquiries to redress the
situation and advise you of the solution as quickly as possible.
