Lime is an alkaline material which, like Portland cement, is capable of causing damage to the skin or eyes if used without appropriate care.

As with most other common building materials, lime products can be used without risk or danger provided a few simple precautions are taken.  The most serious risk will be to the eyes.

Storage

Protect from frost and heat.  Store upright in original containers.  Shelf life - unlimited.

 

Protective Measures

Goggles and gloves should be worn.  Wear suitable protective clothing.  Wash with soap and water after handling.

 

First Aid

Contact with skin may cause sensitisation.

 

Skin:

Affected areas should be washed with soap and water.  Contaminated clothing should be removed and washed.

 

Eyes:

If eyes are contaminated they should be rinsed at once with copious amounts of water for at least ten minutes and medical attention should be sought immediately.

 

Oral Ingestion:

If product is ingested, drink large amounts of water or milk.
DO NOT induce vomiting.  Seek immediate medical attention.

 

Spillage:

Spillage's should be scooped up and any remaining should be washed away.  Lime putty on a floor can be a hazard.  Non-pollutant.

 

Fire & Explosion:

Non-flammable.

 

Disposal:

To be disposed of as a non-toxic waste through a reputable waste disposal contractor.
