What paint can I use for the exterior of my listed building?

Posted By: Jen Austin

I have a Grade II* listed house that has cement render (over brick and earlier render that was originally ashlar-scored) and many layers of paint applied. The render appears to be sound, so we intend to leave it alone for fear of doing more damage in attempting to remove it.
What products would you recommend for painting that would go over the existing surface on a fairly exposed facade (weather and next to a major road).
I love the softer appearance of limewash, but I expect this wouldn't hold up well in our location - are mineral paints our best option?
